Located in an eastern borough of Pittsburgh, PA, the Braddock Library is the first library built with money donated by Andrew Carnegie in the United States (he went on to build roughly 1,600 more, but none like this one). The library opened its doors in 1889, but was closed in 1974 and slated for demolition in the late 1970s until it was saved by a group of residents in the neighborhood. After reopening in 1983, it has been restored piece by piece. This 4 1/4” solid smooth walnut has the rich, dark tones inspired by the locally sourced cast iron stair railings.
